Naval Postgraduate School mission is to "Increase the combat effectiveness of US and Allied armed forces and enhance the security of the USA through advanced education and research programs focused on the technical, analytical, and managerial tools needed to confront defense-related challenges."
The Monterey Peninsula is ideal for recreation with forests, beaches, parks, golf courses and the nearby ocean. Nearly a million people visit the county's two state parks, Big Sur and Point Lobos. The peninsula's Monterey Bay Aquarium was named the nation's number one aquarium. Numerous special events are held each year. There are Salmon Derbies, yacht races, dog shows, parades, arts and crafts fairs; car races, rodeos and antique car show. The AT&T Pro-Am Golf Tournament is also held here annually.
